Women of LeWeb

I'm so looking forward to LeWeb10! From the long list of speakers, I'm picking these four.

Mitchell Baker Mitchell Baker (U.S. citizen, age 52 or 53, lizardwrangler.com, @mitchellbaker) is Chair of the Mozilla Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting openness, innovation and opportunity on the Internet. According to wikipedia, she was trained as a lawyer, is a skilled trapeze artist, and is fluent in conversational Mandarin Chinese.

Veronica Belmont Veronica Belmont (U.S. citizen, age 28, veronicabelmont.com, @veronica) is Host of Tekzilla on Revision3.com and of the monthly PlayStation 3-based video on demand program Qore. By many considered one of the sexiest geeks in the U.S., she has over 1.6 million followers on Twitter.

Ariel Garten Ariel Garten (Canadian, age 30) is an artist, scientist and intellectual. She is also the CEO of Interaxon (@InteraXon), a leading thought-controlled computing company. Or in other words: Ariel knows how to move things with your brainwaves.

Marissa Mayer (U.S. citizen, age 35, @marissamayer) is VP, Search Products and User Experience vice president of geographic and local services at Google. According to Wikipedia, she is credited with shaping the design of Google Maps, Google Earth, iGoogle, and more. She uses Google's Corporate Executive Team page as her bio url but her name seems to be missing from the page. Or am I missing something? Her name's still there in the co.uk and the .be versions of the corporate page.

If Bnox.be were a country, it would be larger than Vatican City

Bnox.be - 1,526 visitors visualized: "A world record for the biggest Coke-Mentos explosion belongs to 1,500 students of Leuven, Belgium. Students, each wearing a blue poncho, added Mentos mints to a bottle of Diet Coke for a simultaneous explosion. bnox.be has more than 1500 daily visitors. If it would be possible to bring all of bnox.be visitors to one place for a meetup, it would be a good idea to get some Mentos and Coke and break this record."

Mutts causing emotional surge in Sweden

Swedish insurance company Folksam launched an online Emotions Barometer that "shows you what the people of Sweden truly love. [...] See where people's feelings are strongest and what they care most about." I really like mood based visualisations like this. This is what Sweden is passionate about:

Jonathan Safran Foer cut a new story out of an existing one

Visual Editions: "As [American author] Jonathan [Safran Foer] began to carve out his story, we started doing our production homework and literally got turned down by every printer we approached – their stock line being “the book you want to make just cannot be made”. Thankfully, we found Die Keure in Belgium who relished the challenge of making a book with a different die-cut on every page."

TouchGraph of my site's Social Graph

TouchGraph Google Browser is a free Java application to explore the connections between related websites. For Bnox.be, it looks a little like this:

.

There's also a TouchGraph Facebook Browser that lets you see how your friends are connected, and who has the most photos together.
