I think the answer is yes: Facebook is perfect to invite people to your private party. The downside is that it's so easy to say "yes" to a Facebook RSVP that eventually only 30% of them actually show up. Maybe if Facebook added an "export to iCal/Outlook" feature people would remember. Same thing happened to Belgian singer Brahim. Brahim Attaeb has 4800 friends on Facebook and knows full well it's the 2008 equivalent of answering fanmail: he uses it to keep in touch with his audience. So when he organised a free acoustic concert last Monday, he only invited his Facebook friends. And although the event had 229 confirmed guests, only 75 of them actually showed up.
More on the event in last night's Volt TV programme. Also featuring my 20 seconds of fame. Spent over an hour in a small dark room with Kobe Ilsen for this, but totally worth it! Hat tip to Nanske - see also Wat is de invloed van Facebook.
Are Facebook events the new smartmobs?
