Today's Meeting of Minds event felt as the closest thing to this Bloomsbury Group fantasy of mine, and it was also the reason why I made my presentation sitting down (like in a salon). It was also because Google Video makes me look fat, and I didn't want to take chances with the video technology Loïc Le Meur is going to use in his video report of today's sessions :-)Some things I learnt today:
- John Buckman: "Science fiction author Bruce Sterling says the future of the internet will look like a Furby: with smaller and cheaper devices that look complicated but are unable to perform complicated tasks".
- Bob Young: "Copyright was invented to protect English novelist Charles Dickens so he could write his next book without having to worry about his income."
- Sonny Bono started his political career with a mission: to make copyright last as long as possible so his children and grandchildren could make money with his hit I got you babe.
- Loïc Le Meur always manages to stir things up a bit... This time he provoked the anger of Bettina Geysen on the "tv is not supposed to be fake" topic.
And of course, the Tweets (courtesy of Clopin - Past is prologue).
I've posted all of my notes on Internet will eat itself on my blog. The idea is to transform it into a fluent text of about 1700 words, so any help, remarks etc is welcome. I wrote the text offline, in notepad, so none of it has any scientific basis. It's just a prediction of what internet will look like in 2020.
UPDATE: .mp3 of my session + 9 scenario's on the future of the Internet: "During the past MoM, 9 experts presented their view on the Internet in 2020."
